Studied Martial Arts for over 46 years while training in Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, China, and Thailand.
Having extensively trained in Asia has allowed me to bridge the Eastern and Western philosophies to better prepare the students for the challenges they will face in the challenges they will face in their lives. It is my belief that, as a Grandmaster of Martial Arts, I have a responsibility to my students to encourage them to attain the highest level of proficiency possible. Each year, I travel to the Orient to increase my knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of the Martial Arts - so I can better serve my students.
Edwin Duterte started his martial arts training in San Jose in 1979, studying Tae Kwon Do under the direction of Master Tony Thompson, who co-founded the West Coast Institute of Tae Kwon Do. Edwin was a first generation member of the West Coast Junior Demonstration team and performed in hundreds of martial arts shows. In the 1980's, he was active in the tournament circuit as a fighting and forms competitor.
He believes the practice of martial arts and the discipline of training help to develop the necessary skills to succeed in whatever goals a student might have. His goal is to create a supportive environment where his students, both children, and adults, will not only learn about martial arts but also about themselves.
At Kukkido Martial Arts, our instructors have great knowledge in their arts and emphasize self-control, discipline, and respect while the student attains a greater self-confidence and physical awareness.
Kukkido Martial Arts offers a wide variety of classes to meet our students individual needs, here is what we are offering:
